How to make hummingbird food
First start with the water and bring it to a boil. Make a large enough amount because you will find yourself using this for many other applications. So we like to make a two liter bottle when we do. This gives us enough to fill the feeders a few times before having to make more. So Remember that your using a lot of sugar so half and half and you need to get it to dissolve into the water. Eight Cups of water and eight cups of sugar. You can use 2 cups of water and 1 cup of water early in the year. Later in the summer adding the other cup of sugar adds the energy that they need to store to fly down south for the winter.
Directions: How to make hummingbird food
So Start with Eight cups of water and bring it to a rolling boil and turn it down on low. Now you want to take the amount of sugar that your going to use, and slowly pour it in while stirring the water. Making sure the sugar does not settle and burn. Add all the sugar and stir till the water just starts to boil and shut the fire off and allow the mixture to cool. This is the food that you will add to your feeder, and to make it red just add a drop of food coloring and get a red mixture or what ever color you desire!!!
Add this same mixture to drinks in the summer and sweeten with liquid sugar, Like lemonaid, tea and ice coffee!!!
